Tri-City Transitions and Home Depot
It may surprise you to know that big companies like the Home Depot are very involved in volunteering. They have a group called The Orange Women’s Network, a group of women that works at Home Depot and volunteer their time with organizations to use their skills in home improvement projects. The Orange Women Network partnered with Tri City Transitions Society. The Tri-City Transition Society is a non-profit organization that helps abused women and their families in the Tri-City area. One way the organization helps women is by providing a transition home for women and their children to stay in. This home sees a constant flow of people, and over time it needed a spruce! So, 8 volunteers from the Orange Women’s Network came in with paint supplies in-hand ready to freshen up the home with a new coat of paint!
When the volunteers arrived at the transition home, they heard about how excited the children were. The kids were even asking if the volunteers were “going to paint the house bright colours?” Something as simple as paint was very exciting, and Carol from the Tri City Transitions Society said “Even just putting a coat of paint on the walls lifted everyone spirits.”
The Orange Women’s Network volunteers worked hard to paint the whole upper floor, which consisted of 3 rooms and a hallway. Carol said that everyone was “very grateful for being selected to have Home Depot come in and donate time for the transition house. It’s wonderful to know that there are corporations and businesses that support what we do”. And Carol wanted to make certain that the volunteers knew “I am very very grateful for Home depot for all they have done, and for their continued support. And just a great big thank you to them”
Home Depot’s volunteers volunteered their time and skills, and it was clearly appreciated by the families in the transition home as well as the workers at the Tri City Transition Society. You could volunteer practical skills like the volunteers in the Orange Women’s Network. Or you could volunteer at Tri City Transitions Society doing anything from holding workshops or shopping for groceries for the transition home.
