Hourly Wage: $25.95-$29.76 per hour
Shift: Day shift, Sunday to Wednesday
Hours: 10:00am – 5:30pm, 28 hours/week (1/2 hr. unpaid meal break)

Position Summary
The Community Support Outreach Worker plays a vital role in enhancing services for women who have experienced violence and abuse while placing a strong emphasis on safety and confidentiality. This position provides support services to both current and past transition house participants of the Transition House.
In this role, the successful applicant will be required to rigorously uphold the confidentiality and anonymity of participants, ensuring that safety governs all interactions and job functions.
The Community Support Outreach Worker will be responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with service providers and community agencies to support the unique needs of participants at the Transition House. Key responsibilities include delivering culturally appropriate supports and services directly to participants including referrals to safe housing, transportation, and advocacy for housing, medical, legal, and social services.
All Tri-City Transitions employees are expected to endorse the philosophy, policies, goals, and objectives of the Society while providing services within a cross-program collaborative framework. Transition House employees must maintain accurate knowledge and practice of policies and procedures specific to the program, including community resources.
The role of the Community Support Outreach Worker encompasses three general categories including community outreach, direct participant support, and administrative duties. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with a solid understanding of the dynamics of violence against women. A diploma in a related field and relevant experience are required, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within the community.
Responsibilities
- · Assist women in accessing safe and affordable housing and other necessary services.
- · Provide accompaniment, and advocacy for service delivery at the transition house, and in the community including medical appointments, legal and social service appointments.
- · Offer referrals and follow-up support via phone and in-person to women who have previously utilized Outreach and Transition House services.
- · Present participants with researched information to increase clients’ ability to make an informed choice.
- · Facilitate women’s understanding of the emotional and psychological impacts of trauma resulting from abuse.
- · Model personal accountability, responsibility, inclusion, boundary setting, and initiative.
- · Demonstrate safety practices, and problem solving, crisis intervention skills, critical thinking, and active listening skills.
- · Engage with participants from a trauma-informed perspective.
- · Assist participants in the development of a Personal Service Plan and Safety Plan.
- · Assist participants in the development of a Personal Budget.
- · Assist participants in developing strategies to overcome barriers to independence, resiliency, and autonomy – personal, housing, financial, physical/health, and education.
- · Develop and maintain networks and relationships with service providers (e.g., counseling programs, transition houses, alcohol, and drug counselors) to foster collaboration and enhance services for women.
- · Where required seek collaborative service opportunities both intra and inter-agency to assist past and current participants.
- · Participates in integrated case management meetings as required.
- · Maintain accurate records – logs, statistics, client files, schedules.
- · Perform administrative duties and other related responsibilities as required.
- · Performs other related Agency duties as directed by Program Manager.

- · Knowledge and understanding of the cycle of power and control.
- · Extensive knowledge of local community resources.
- · Knowledge of ancillary systems involved in domestic violence; legal system, community advocates, applicable legislation, practices, and policies of MCFD.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- · Diploma from a recognized institute related to the human/social service field.
- · Specialized training in violence/trauma in the family from a recognized program.
- · Minimum (1) year direct experience providing services to women who have experienced violence or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- · Understanding of systemic discrimination facing women and the dynamics of violence against women.
- · Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for job-related duties.
- · Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) is required.
- · Union membership with the BCGEU General Services is mandatory.
- · Valid CPR certificate – including Children’s First Aid.

- · This successful candidate will be required to work in a stressful environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations, which are or have experienced physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
